Rock and Roll Talent Trek Ontario

Ottawa rock star
A recent visit to Ottawa convinced me rock and roll was alive and well and in revival mode, whilst I also discovered a form of entertainment I'd never before witnessed - two in fact - including aboriginal throat singers and a native dancer dancing with hula-like rings which she danced artistically with in a challenging routine that seemingly multiplied the rings in numbers as she writhed her way to the spectacular conclusion where all symbolically appears as one ring ball.

I say rock & roll is alive, because the local bar we attended, filled with young people, most likely students, flocked there to take in the live duo of entertainers who pelted out classic rock tunes, such as The Beatles and other era greats, with unbridled passion.

The musicians, seemed to love to play and were technically very good, especially the lead vocalist / guitarist and their expression and feeling for the music, which transcended the audience, grabbing their attention from the opposite sex or their beer, throughout their performance. That showed me there is still another generation enjoying and feeling the music, and that is a good thing, having noticed the same passion and phenomenal talent wherever I go in Ontario Canada, from Newmarket to Toronto to Hamilton to Niagara...the passion and drive lives on!

Live Rock venues disappearing in Toronto?
Question is then, with a seemingly huge appetite for those both playing and listening to live music, why is it bands often have to book clubs out for the night themselves and or get a promo guy to and sell tickets themselves in order to play more and more often? Often bars expect the bands to bring all the attendees to their establishments for these one off nights whereas in the old days bands would just show up and play for a price with an inhouse crowd already expected.

One needs look only at the demise of such iconic Toronto area live venues, such as Healey's, Club Blue Note, The Gasworks, The Big Bop, El Mocambo, Rock & roll Heaven, Nags Head North and on. Even Toronto's version of Hard Rock Cafe isn't set for live on the main floor.

Saw Queen in Ottawa

One club that's hung in there is The Rock Pile East or West locations, owned by the former Big Bop owners, but, unless you're a known headliner, you're on your own for attendees which results in rock shows that often have mixed fans resulting in some who come for just their band and split - whereas I've found the Hip Hop people much more supportive of each other that way. Weird quirk. Ha. Who knew rappers were nicer than rockers. Lol.

At any rate, I'm still getting calls from acts that want to be booked and venues needing acts, and will keep hooking it all up.

I look forward to some cool upcoming shows and will keep you in the loop!

With the warmer weather comes the excitement of the entertainment biz as people naturally become more mobilized and search out adventures away from the winter lair. Even video and movie shoots ramp up production, now able to go longer and in more agreeable conditions for talent and crew.

Previously I'd written about the need for more live comedy in the north G.T.A. noting that no clubs exclusive for comedy exist, at least not north of highway 7, and to that end, promised to see if we couldn't hook up the right people together to make it so - and I'm happy to say that's exactly what seems to now be transpiring, with TPE connecting Stellar Hall and Event Centre, located in Newmarket, Ontario, Canada, with 90 Nickel Entertainment as well as Arthur JR Music.

Comedian Mark Anthony and Farley Flex
These guys have been combining their talents to produce some top notch live shows - an infusion of which has been in dire need in the area - as one gets stuck in "same old, same old" mode here. What I mean by that is often clubs in Newmarket, Aurora and the 905, are reluctant to bring in any entertainment outside their "norm"(classic rock covers), and certainly not original music from some unknown out - of - towner. No local followers is their limited thinking with places often changing event nights when they don't seem to work immediately, instead of building and supporting them. Everyone wants instant everything. Now!

So when a promoter also brings along a slew of followers and they have a stated mission to seek out and present top talent only, it's a formula that can and has been very effective, and will continue to be as they fill that craving patrons do have, to want to see and hear new exciting tunes and talent from the ground level and up. The recent Talent Search Tour show, held also at Stellar Hall, is a good example. This event showcased scouted, up and coming top talent, and featured headliner draws such as Glass Ampp who rocked the place and band's manager and former Canadian Idol judge Farley Flex. That show had stand up comedians, bands, and hip hop artists, and was a dope show in itself.
You can read all about it and see the pics here!

That show got the ball rolling and the minds whirring, and, as anyone knows, once event promoters / organizers get together visualizations begin to emerge and it didn't take long for the guys to visualize what I saw, that is a great venue for live shows and also very suitable for comedy shows so we hope to coordinate some bigger names in the future to that end to this venue.
Who knows maybe Steve O. or someone along those lines those A List Lines anyway.
STEVE O! JACK ASS! RU F*#@!& Serious?!

The next shows at Stellar Hall by AJM FAM - and 90 Nickel, who also perform & record, with AJM FAM having just released two singles Love What I Do and The Payment on video recently, produced by Captured Film. The Stellar Hall show will be headlined by one of Jay Z's original crew as FREEWAY comes to town Friday June 27 2014!

Also on the horizon at Stellar Hall is former Jay Z crewman FREEWAY June 27

Look for some more Stellar Entertainment to come out of this crew in the near future and stay tuned for some stoking shows in the works for the future..comedy, music....who knows who they'll get in the future but the venue has been found!

Newmarket Entertainment Talent Search Tour 2014

It's not often I get excited about about a live show these days, as far too often I'm stuck feeding the same old, same old routine, dealing with cover band loving bookers, too afraid to let a talented original performer in the door. But every now and then something comes along to spark my passions, and nothing can feed my easily bored diverse palate for original material, than a talent search - one including Canadian Idol's Farley Flex as a judge no less. Hey don't knock it, the guy's connected to talent, make no mistake.

Talent Search Concert Tour 2014 presented by Captured Films & Arthur Jr Music brings that to town at Stellar Hall & Event Centre April 18 and more. At this writing no less than 9 Hip Hop acts have thrown their hats into the ring for the Newmarket swing of the talent tour and search, or onto the stage as it were,

along with 5 bands, 5 comedians and looks to be stokingly

Shaping up to honour its namesake as a Stellar Show!

Cameo performances can also be expected by some of the judging panel which includes in addition to Flex, TV & Film / Video Producer / Performer Tom Pearson, members from Glass Ampp, Anthony Champion, & The AJM FAM. The coolness is, it doesn't end there - with summer tour dates also awaiting the winners of the talent search by Arthur Jr Music and Captured Films in addition to all the other stuff, including a Grand Prize of $5,000 in industry goodies - like shoot time on a Red Epic Cam like Robo Cop and Transformers used!

Don't Miss This Event
Anyone with an inkling of getting their toes wet in " The Biz" should attend this phenomenal talent search and performances event - even if it's just to attend and enjoy the awesome entertainment that will no doubt be on display and it's an opportunity to hear music at its earliest rawest form, before the molds of the industry set in or schmooze with some industry pros.

At The Clubs Newmarket and Video Highlights of Tom's Top 10 Entertainment

Stellar Hall & Event Centre Feb 14 and 15th Dance Events
Wow what a week in entertainment and action! Tom's Top 10 New Years Eve Guide was so successful it made sense to keep the service for people searching online for an area Dining and Entertainment Guide. In the 1st week the listing  has received 200 views from people searching for those terms! Now that is targeted search marketing! Just punch into your computer - " Dining Entertainment Newmarket" or " Entertainment Guide" or " Toms Top 10" or any combination therein and a Tom's Top 10 listing pops up onscreen! Powerful stuff.

Meantime, my vision for Tom's Top 10 fits in with TPE Productions, with all the promotion, band / event bookings and video productions involved.TPE plans to put together interesting videos of the various hotspots and the action happening onstage, as well as continue to add fun new additions like TP's industry comics and other tombits to keep things interesting.

I'm looking forward to a couple of events upcoming such as the TPE DRYDance Production, a dance at Stellar Hall Sat Feb 15 featuring The Yappers fresh from playing The famous El Mocambo and dance music DJ style between sets A la carte menu available. Stellar Hall & Events Centre is also featuring a Feb 14 Valentines Night Special Dinner, Dance and Show with award winning dance troupe @ only $70 per couple.

TPE is also putting on a show at Big Daddy's Rock & Roll Emporium Fri March 14 for The Opening Face off Party featuring Clean Fill Wanted and The Yappers. $5 cover charge. I caught a show there last week and it featured a young up and coming band called This Side Up which TPE captured on video. Drum  and guitar work worth seeing!

TPE is involved in organizing the Friendly Neighbourhood Youth Road hockey Challenge and working towards a suitable location to hold the event, with construction presently hindering the original proposed spot. TPE is working with cooperative partners such as Newmarket Councilor Joe Sponga and Newmarket sports store owner Gerry Ertl as well as Highwayy 11 Cruisers Car Club member Danny Fachino, PACC Vice Chair Dan Philion and other interested parties and hopefully we can solve this dilemma - soon!

I managed to pop into a number of places in the past few weeks like Villa Risi Ristorante, and caught some great singing / piano act! Col Mustard's for karaoke, Pirates Cove, Big Chris BBQ, and Stellar Hall and you can catch some of what I captured on our Tom's Top 10 Entertainment highlights video!
