Chrismakah @ Musideum w Terry Watkinson

Live @ Chrismakah w Terry Watkinson and Bevy of Toronto Talent

Lawrie Ingles, left, with performers Tristan Avakian and Stephen Snitman
Recently, I was lucky enough to attend an evening featuring outstanding Toronto area based talent at the Musideum, a unique small studio-like hall with a stage big enough to hold a (baby?) grand piano and live shows. The space, which also doubles as a sales location for the various musical instruments that adorn the walls, had a good acoustical ambiance as well, offering little in echo, all contained within an intimate setting.

Bob Wegner
Truly, the unique place was so small, it would be very likely many of the umpteen remarkable performers lined up for the night made up its bulk so you were lucky to just get in! In fact, as each performer did get up, they offered up about how humbled they seem to feel to be included in the group, as Host Lawrie Ingles, also a multi instrumentalist and singer, along with Donald Quan, had pulled no punches, or strings rather, on this night. Everyone had unique, but superb talents and styles, differing enough to keep the audience always interested. Having the legendary Songwriter / Performer Terry Watkinson formerly of Max Webster fame there that night performing was all icing on the cake.

The after chat, see full line-up here
The loose, fun theme of " Xmas songs, religious and hockey songs", which Chrismakah was advertised as a celebration of, was really likely just a fun way of saying, we want to have a party, open to every belief, that plays some great original and fun music and which may or may not be about the holidays. Of course, the crafted event likely avoids that nasty H word on purpose, which just added to the unspoken light mood set before you came in and carried on from there. Definitely right up my alley having released my own mock album of classics - sans the Xmas parts.

Jeremy Wright - Beatles specialist
What started out as a 3 hour night turned into 4 and a half before you knew it, with a jam-like atmosphere gripping the stage by the end. Max Webster, Rush, Queen all got a tribute, with Host Ingles using his knowledge of everyone's talents, as well as his own, to great use. Ingles kind of  reminds me of a sort of Columbo up there...minus the rain coat, but in style, kind of moving through things in his own relaxed pace even through silences. It added character in a low key kind of way, helping preserve a sort of raw, jammy, anything- could- happen type of appeal. Ingles' talents did not go unnoticed either, jumping from keyboards to bass to even percussion at times, to lead or back up vocals & with Terry Watkinson no less! Bob, if you could play bass, uhhhh!...Ok, he didn't speak like him. Lol.

Oh Chrismakah tree, Oh Chrismakah tree!
But you know special things are happening when such talented performers such as Bob Wegner are willing to play bass, while multi-talented Ingles drums and while usual lead guitar Sam B rythyms to give way to the legendary Terry Watkinson's lead on piano. Anyway, as a connoisseur of talents and a craver of original and different, as well as having a love of the music from the past, this was a night to remember! Watch for the TPE videos of some of the other amazing music artists I was able to catch...

and Stay tuned for any more upcoming shows put together by these guys...

New Years Eve @ Stellar Hall in Newmarket a Divine Time!

Stellar Hall New Years Eve - 2015-16 - $75.00 person, hot hors'oeuvres, buffet dinner includes open bar
Happy New Year! I hope you all have a fabulous time and don't do anything stupid - like make New Year's resolutions. Ha. Well, what can I say, if you're anything like me you're still working on last year's list!

At any rate, my New Years Eve last year turned out be be a ton of fun on a night where I wasn't sure I'd even venture out. And that seemed to be the case for a number, with some seemingly decided not to venture out for New Year's or booked late. Too bad for them!

Although cabs here are great, drinking and driving is may be a factor for some, with many opting for a designated driver when going out as a couple, resulting sometimes in one person letting loose a bit and the other..well...I'm sure often seething. Ha...

Truth is though, for personal reasons, I myself hadn't been that excited about New Years Eve last year, despite knowing there would be great food, some good friends, dancing at Stellar Hall...

I don't know, but the spirits were high for sure by midnight which transferred on into the entire night for me. Uncharacteristically giddy all night, I made the best of my personal feelings and tossed them aside for a good time instead with some good people.... and even nearly broke out of my self imposed shell.

Insert scene from The Wall Is there anybody in there!

New Year's Eve is a special night, and so you want that night to be special in some way, and those around caring about your special night  from fellow guests, to hosts, friends, family, caterers, bartender, right down to coat-check person... and for one magical night at Stellar Hall and Event Centre in Newmarket Ontario, that all came together for me..it just happened to be New Years Eve! Salute! Cheers!

So happy New Year! Visit us on Facebook!

A Top Choice for New Year's Eve in Newmarket for Dancing, Dinner, Party!

With 2015-16 coming up, Stellar Hall in Newmarket, Ontario, Canada is starting to form its own New Year's Eve Traditions.

Having known the owner's family prior to the first D.H.Catering location opening, when a then strapping young owner, Johnny Cutrone, came and asked my opinion on the idea of opening a breakfast spot, wherein I think I said, "Go for it!" Its evolved since then to catering and now also a hall.

Don't be alone New Years!
We met when I was a single dad working at Glenway Country Club as a bartender & filling in as fine-dining night waiter too, as they didn't have anyone who knew French Service - other than one other guy & Johnny who I'd coached on it. He too was a single waiter then who'd learned his craft mostly working for a caterer at Aurora's Atrium from a young age and we hit it off as friends despite the age difference. Young pup! lol.
So it was only a natural that he evolved from breakfasts, to catering, to a full fledged Stellar Hall, as is now sported at 1220 Stellar Lane Dr. upstairs above the bowling alley. Of course, he now has kids as well as a wife, and whilst mine are older we're all friends and that's what New Years Eve is about - spending time with friends & good people, and so who better to play host and for me to attend at on N.Y.'s, especially when part of your job is to assist with the nights success!

$75 Includes Open Bar, DJ, Live atmosphere for Dinner

The food speaks for itself - Fresh always with a variety of delicious entrees on the gourmet buffet, Carving Station, Hot H'ordeuvres, Midnight Buffet, Champagne Toast!

DryDance Events No Alcohol Dance GTA

WATCH HERE FOR UPCOMING EVENT INFO

I was so looking forward to the first monthly DryDance Production event on Sat Feb 15 at Stellar Hall and Event Centre in Newmarket, Ontario, Canada - unit 205, second floor above the Stellar Bowl. The 19 +, alcohol free events and dances are targeted towards a more mature crowd with rotating themes and coinciding activities planned to reflect that. There is no alcohol consumption allowed in the hall during any TPE Productions DryDance events.

It was a BLAST! For the opening night we decided to theme the dance as an escape from winter and so sun and tropical -like influences  ruled the evening, although aside from the excellent theme inspired Reggae rooted band, The Yappers, we also offered dj style music with everything from classic rock early on to the latest in dance music and Latin Dance, all pumped out through a clean, surround sound system with dance lights creating the desired effect. The goal is to inspire an exciting atmosphere that allows people to dance, have fun, or socialize and welcomes anyone interested in partaking. As the events grow in size, so too will the bells and whistles and we hope to add atmospheric live entertainment to the earlier part of the evening in future or karaoke as well as perhaps with an early bird supper club menu.

Theme Menus
We'll continue to have draws and wacky contests and give out theme related prizes, as well as offer a theme inspired menu offering quick bite munchies like cajun style fish tacos! Also watch for "virgin" style exotic drinks such as Pinacoladas and fresh fruit and yogurt smoothies too! Mmmm. Use it or lose it!

Not sure how the prizes will be given out each time yet, but certainly the person most dressed in theme will win something! You don't have to dress up but do please put your dancing shoes on! Ha! Hey, and maybe break out some Michael Jackson moon dancing for memory lane!

Stellar Hall is made up of two semi adjoining rooms - the main hall, and a smaller room with area for mingling and to order food and beverages from. There is also long corridor hallway for strolling and an elevator should anyone wish instead of stairs for smoking outside.

The event has a $10 cover charge or $5 in advance  includes entrance to the dance and a chance at door prizes as well as light snacks. Theme menu or Pop or water also available at only $1.50. Advanced Tickets info Stellar @  905-830-9441 or TPE @ 289-221-0928

TP Entertainment & Productions will keep these dances going once a month as long as supported and will continue to add fun add-on activities to the mix - so stay tuned to DryDance Productions - No Ads - Simply Google Search DryDance Newmarket for info and dates each month or No Alcohol Dance.

Toms Top 10 Entertainment and Restaurant Mother's Day Hot Spots!

Stellar Hall and Event Centre
Newmarket Area Restaurant and Entertainment Tom's Top 10 Guide
Recently I had the fortune of getting out and about during the holidays and new year's season and it spurred me on a wee bit so to speak. First I created a New Year's Eve Guide which went so well, I decided to create a listing Guide of Top 10 choices of restaurants and clubs that offer
both entertainment and good food fare.

I realized there was no reliable place to source local restaurants for night out entertainment and dancing that would also be a good place to eat..or neither for that matter!

Villa Risi has a beautiful Piano Bar too
At any rate, I managed to pop into a few places that had been interested to get on the list and sounds like they all have some cool stuff upcoming.including weekends classic rock live entertainment at Big Chris BBQ, formerly Orleans, and a Valentines Dinner and Dance Feb 14 at Stellar Hall as well as a Drydance Production Feb 15 and Villa Risi features Live Rythm N Blues Entertainment as well!

TOM'S TOP 10 GUIDE

New Years Eve went off without a hitch with hosts Highway 11 Car Club, the place filling up over the last few days, and the club hosts putting on a great time. Rob the DJ seemed to really have the groove with the dance floor always busy and have to hand it to him. Really a good buzz in the room and door prizes rounded out the fun along with some poker play.

Shortly thereafter I somehow got stung to come in and help out Stellar Hall & Event Centre with a private function birthday featuring..drum roll...an all male review! Ha. That was a blast from behind the scenes! Women are crazier than men when it comes to these things.Ha. but in a yahoo fun kind of way....I think...Ha...anyway to the sweet girl who thought I looked like Eric Roberts..Nice try! What kind of a guy do you think I am young lady!? You're right!!!! Doh!

Sailor Jerry Party Jan 17
Also dropped into Big Chris BBQ - yes there really is a Big Chris - and on top of all theweekend live entertainment they have - they have some other cool events on the slate such as a Tues Jams,Sailor Jerry tastings and some hot tub parties for April were mentioned! I'll keep you informed!
Beautiful decor at Villa Risi Ristorante
I never knew Villa Risi was so beautiful inside, well I guess I knew but it had been awhile.
Peter tells me he has a great line up of entertainers from Rythym n Blues to classic rock to piano and invited me to check it out this Friday night I'm looking forward to it and it's - a gorgeous room for someone to showcase their talent!

I have a wack more places to visit in the next few days and am planning to pop in and test / see some of the Newmarket area entertainment and hospitality upcoming this weekend! Stay tuned!

New Year's Eve Restaurant Party Guide Newmarket - Last Minute Club Listings

So you broke a promise you made to yourself last year to have your New Year's Eve planned and reservations booked to avoid any confusion of what to do at the last minute. Either way it's all moot because once again you've procrastinated your face off and put yourself in a precarious position.
