Rock and Roll Talent Trek Ontario

Ottawa rock star
A recent visit to Ottawa convinced me rock and roll was alive and well and in revival mode, whilst I also discovered a form of entertainment I'd never before witnessed - two in fact - including aboriginal throat singers and a native dancer dancing with hula-like rings which she danced artistically with in a challenging routine that seemingly multiplied the rings in numbers as she writhed her way to the spectacular conclusion where all symbolically appears as one ring ball.

I say rock & roll is alive, because the local bar we attended, filled with young people, most likely students, flocked there to take in the live duo of entertainers who pelted out classic rock tunes, such as The Beatles and other era greats, with unbridled passion.

The musicians, seemed to love to play and were technically very good, especially the lead vocalist / guitarist and their expression and feeling for the music, which transcended the audience, grabbing their attention from the opposite sex or their beer, throughout their performance. That showed me there is still another generation enjoying and feeling the music, and that is a good thing, having noticed the same passion and phenomenal talent wherever I go in Ontario Canada, from Newmarket to Toronto to Hamilton to Niagara...the passion and drive lives on!

Live Rock venues disappearing in Toronto?
Question is then, with a seemingly huge appetite for those both playing and listening to live music, why is it bands often have to book clubs out for the night themselves and or get a promo guy to and sell tickets themselves in order to play more and more often? Often bars expect the bands to bring all the attendees to their establishments for these one off nights whereas in the old days bands would just show up and play for a price with an inhouse crowd already expected.

One needs look only at the demise of such iconic Toronto area live venues, such as Healey's, Club Blue Note, The Gasworks, The Big Bop, El Mocambo, Rock & roll Heaven, Nags Head North and on. Even Toronto's version of Hard Rock Cafe isn't set for live on the main floor.

Saw Queen in Ottawa

One club that's hung in there is The Rock Pile East or West locations, owned by the former Big Bop owners, but, unless you're a known headliner, you're on your own for attendees which results in rock shows that often have mixed fans resulting in some who come for just their band and split - whereas I've found the Hip Hop people much more supportive of each other that way. Weird quirk. Ha. Who knew rappers were nicer than rockers. Lol.

At any rate, I'm still getting calls from acts that want to be booked and venues needing acts, and will keep hooking it all up.

I look forward to some cool upcoming shows and will keep you in the loop!

At The Clubs Live Entertainment G.T.A. Night Scene

With winter lasting longer and being more severe than in recent past years, it's been an opportunity for entertainers to try to lure people out into the cold, and along with that, into the clubs and restaurants that go along with them.

So many clubs / pubs these days seem to be trying to create that one night featuring live entertainment but they also seem over reliant on the bands or promoters to bring all the people. Whatever happened to old fashioned in-house promotion and hospitality to bring people back? What happened to having a bar of regular patrons who come anyway knowing you consistently have something, and the staff were friendly and welcoming and informative? Or do you actually alienate your "regulars' or potentials when you hold certain live events by not including them?

I'll tell you what happened it's called consistency and laziness.

One place recently that asked me to create something on an off night as an example. I agreed, however I told the owner that certain things would have to be in place for it to work, that it would not happen overnight and that they would have to be consistent and then it would work as it was not a new concept.

"No problem", he said, "just tell me what you need - and oh, there's no budget by the way".

First off the staff were not behind it - strike one. Every time I dropped in to talk about it I got static from the manager and the staff laughed at me for suggesting a meeting to explain everything claiming they'd never had one, thus no pre promotions happened with their "regulars" to encourage mor attendance.

Secondly, they did not provide free anything food-wise as discussed, nor invite liquor reps to participate as  requested for tastings and demos, and thirdly, on the night of the event, the owner, who's idea it was, was not present, so staff were still questioning where it would be held and mentioning "regulars" won't approve etc. They were to also provide dance music sound with dance lights which they didn't when the time came. One waitress actually told me she'd never been to a dance bar so wasn't sure what atmosphere I meant for dancing. Yet told me she'd been in the business 30 years - and never been to a dance bar?  That's all I remember us having! Lol.

Yea. That won't happen twice.

Another place, which won't even guarantee a full band more than $200, and which cancelled our scheduled Hip Hop show because suddenly, " He's not sure...?" then expected me to find, in a few short weeks, a suitable replacement rock band act. On top of that, he'll expect them to bring a crowd etc and me to promote the hell out of it and provide posters again at my cost? For what? last time out he claimed sales( pays a percentage) amounting to a payout of less than $150! Ha. Thus adding the minimum $200 clause by moi for future endeavours with them should I CHOOSE.

Big Chris Promos Upcoming Bands in-house
One dining establishment I frequent has weekend entertainment and has a features board to show off pics and info on entertainers they feature. It always sits empty at the entrance to the place. I told them about it last time in, yet they'll blame you if you don't pack their place. Ha. Sorry, but everyone plays a role and not all acts can bring family and friends to every show!

We'll see...these owners need realize there is some ownership in attendance to them, as well that there needs be a guaranteed cost to the performers / entertainment / promoters, and only then will they attract a consistent base of performers and promoters willing to chance their time on them. Even then, to succeed, they will expect that in-house the events and attractions / entertainment are supported and advertised because only then will it work long term for them. It takes a team to win any game and the biggest team wins, so when staff, management, promoters, entertainment are all working together, there's little chance for tried and true event / theme nights not to work.

No Cutting Corners...just wings!

Chick n Deli, formerly on Mount Pleasant S of Eglinton in Toronto, had live entertainment for 30 years, consistently every weekend, and had pretty darn good chicken - affordable - and did not rely on tricks or promotions or others - they just put up, consistently and then people came, gradually building. Ladies danced their faces off and men flocked, and with that, upgraded the caliber of entertainment. And that my friends is how it is done. I think Big Chris BBQ might be heading down that path.Good on them!

TP Entertainment New Talent Rocks New Genre!

Wow, after a night like tonight it feels good to be in this business. I live for new discoveries and crave originality and on those fronts I scored large tonight, finding some exciting new finds to add to the roster and who have the talent to go places. I also found some other role players who came out to the open stage formatted night to fill some theme nights upcoming, and the atmosphere in the room was absolutely electric as the Good Times Bar & Grill staff scurried to keep up with the windfall of business!

I'd popped in to Good Times early first to check in and remind owner Nawal about extra staffing for that night in between placing the sandwich board sign out for them. Doh! I'm old school when it comes to promotions and believe in optimizing every tool available, so even the sandwich board sign - to me - makes a difference, especially when you're trying to help establish an ongoing event.

The opening country band  was already playing upon my return to an attentive audience and the place was a buzz with activity - the wafting aroma of Good Times wings and nachos platters filling the air. Meantime the father of some new talent I was hoping to see, GEORGIE,  approached me to let me know they were there and not long after Ray Yap from The Yappers arrived as well who I was meeting in person for the first time. I need to do that to get a feel for potential talent because you have to know they are passionate and dedicated and he sure is.

The Yappers, have a very unique sound and in fact may indeed have their own genre. It can best be described as reggae-rock with a country twang - even some blues overtures - but definitively not ska and certainly not just reggae as it contains often the guitar solos of a rock performer or blues player, jumping to bass lines conducive to reggae and back again, and as ray told me, getting used to singing when you're on an upstroke of the guitar, such as the reggae beat, is not an easy task and something other musicians can appreciate. Ray was excited about the fact that they had some airplay and exposure on British radio that day and indeed they are beginning to amass a considerable following considering they've been performing live together only since January! People are really digging it - especially the University set - and bookers can't get enough of them. There is something here. I feel it. This could be one that goes to another level.

The Yappers CD
Ray seemed surprised when I pointed out his music influence / style seemed somewhat connected to Sting's The Police - like a revelation had just gone off - and he grew animated replying, "You know something you're absolutely right. No-ones pointed that out before." Anyway, they excite me and so I may take on a bigger role than promoter because of that, as well Georgie too is an exciting find. She is a prolific writer of her original works and the feeling oozed from the young lady during her performance this night. To me that makes all the difference - the passion. The crowd lapped her up and exploded in applause after each song as her proud mom and dad sat stoically at the back looking on. Good job!

I came across Georgie after someone recommended I take a listen on one of my online postings to which i replied that I give opportunities to talent but I wont chase them - they have to want it themselves - and she did! I'm looking to put both into Good Times on dates in October so watch for that and as well, meantime, if you happen out to the Hope Festival in Pefferlaw for Sick Kids on Sept 14 you can catch her there too.

Cover bands / tunes have their place too and to that end another excellent performer, a local legend,  Freedom Chuck  known as the Man of a Thousand Songs, also came out and in talking, discussed an idea for him to do a Doors tribute night which is a cool idea. He's a good fit for the place too because as a one man show so to speak - well - frankly he's affordable. Ha. He's also talented and been involved in a number of shows with me before. Ironically as I mentioned The Doors Night theme to Ray he laughed and said you're not going to believe this but one of my biggest influences was my uncle Phil Chen who is currently plays bass for ......The Doors! The Chines-Jamaican bassist has also played with Bo Diddly, Rod Stewart, Pete Townsend and Jeff Beck among others! Wow..you can't make this stuff up. And, yes, Ray's uncle loves the music he's making!

Regular Good Times Thursday Night Open Stage hosts, Steve, Doug & Wayne, took it home on the night with accompanying players rotating in and out to round out a spectacular evening of entertainment and banter! My buddy Brad dropped in as well who I hadn't seen in quite some time, and who now hosts an internet radio show Out & About and once co-hosted an entertainment show with myself for Shaw and Rogers cable tv, interviewing the likes of Mike Bullard, The Good Brothers, various Comedians, Music Producers etc. and hooked him up with some talent for his radio show too!

So as I said it was a great night for music, conversation, connections and friends.Stay tuned for more or join us on Facebook or Google+ and get in the game!!

Surviving Summer Concerts Season

Well summer has been zipping along and before we know it we'll be complaining what a short one we had. I've tried to keep as busy as possible whilst maintaining a decent summer, and so far I think I'm failing - on all counts!

I passed on performing at the Collingwood Elvis Fest even though they offered to pay my way and had paid satellite shows. Just couldn't get motivated for it this year after last year's let down being judged in a wrong category. Maybe Wake Stock in August? Ha. Sure. I'm there. Not!

I did manage to attend Edge Fest on the same day that I was auditioning for one of the more weird gigs I've attempted to land for TPE. At first they'd wanted impressionists but somehow I apparently influenced them to look at genetic "characters" too such as a pirate etc. This confused me somewhat, as on top of it all you had to read from a script that would be a snap shot of you calling an online bingo game! The idea I guess is to spruce up otherwise boring straight bingo calling, and at any rate, I read it to the camera as Elvis, Don Cherry, an idiot, an ornery Scot, a wacky woman, gangster..and forgot a few like Thompson Williams! Not sure how I fared yet as they had said they'd let me know this week but I can think of better ways to
make $350 a day...!Ha or can I?

Anyway after that I went straight to the Edge Fest concert still dressed with white pants and shoes on and a white and red striped jacket in my bag that I'd used for the Don Cherry bit in the now pouring rain. I was supposed to meet a buddy at the gate who'd won free tickets and who was going to drive. Of course, he was already in but allowed to the gate to get me in just in time to stand for the next 6 hours in one freekin' spot in the pouring rain all so we wouldn't lose our frickin' spot to hear Monster Truck  who seem to have a bit of a Pink Floyd influence, and later the Luminaires, but they were crap. Anyway it's not worth the battle to protect the bag all night long and fend off attacks on my hat that everyone seemed to love, along with the jacket, just to say we did it! Rock on!
Thank god for the umbrella hat buddy had for me!

I've kept up with blogging and online stuff too though, and good to see Jazzled moving forward with the youth oriented social web-hub having had its first contest winner of a Kobe Reader and new website beginning to take shape.

And one must pay bills! I finished up a clients t.v. show proposal package which originally I had geared towards industry funders but which she had wanted amended to include private investors, so I simply added a limited partnership to it's structure.

And why can't one have fun while working? To that end I agreed to M.C. a hockey banquet complete with stand up comedy which of late of taken a returning interest. I tried out some new material out at a recent open stage in Newmarket and it was very well received (they laughed hard) so I know I can do it. It's a cool feeling when they laugh where you think they should and are comfortable enough to add to it or improvise on your feet. A rush. It's a challenge too, and I guess something that's been missing of late for me. The motivational factor. A challenge that any age person can tackle and succeed at, oh yea, and they are paying me too, that helps. Years ago I had once been a participant in Canada's Funniest New Comic Contest losing to Jeremy Hotz. He won peeking out from his hand to deliver his zingers. Then I got full custody of my kids ending that path...for then!

The Newmarket Jazz Festival was well attended for a first timer but lacked much actual jazz music. The day I attended I spent four hours there and heard not one song. Too often blues, rock, calypso and everything else was played - some really good music - just not on theme. Too bad for this year, but maybe next year they'll invest more time to book some more jazz now that they know if you simply build it they will come!@.

Come on! Surely there has to be something more to do this summer before it too late than these same old, same old themed events....The Tastes of the Danforth Festival is coming up attracting over 1,000,000 visitors and I guess Newmarket's attempt to mirror it would be the ' Multicultural Festival" upcoming, but again, been there done that. I need something different!

There is one $$deal out there worth checking out with something for all ages at the Festival of Friends or Friendship Festival, whatever in Fort Erie this weekend and it gets 10's of thousands of people over 3 days and is free with big names like Chubby Checker...all free..!

Here's a detailed list of Ontario festivals for August! ...Pick one and go!

Beatle Main-ia for Newmarket?

2012 sign
Well I guess you could say summer is here although its been very rainy but locally we've already successfully launched the farmers markets, ecology festival, and look forward to July 1st celebrations and the upcoming Jazz Festivals as well. That's right plural as for some strange reason Newmarket will also launch one this year to go along with nearby Aurora for whatever reason. Wish we'd of had an opportunity to host it, however as far as I can tell there was no bidding, and the town simply awarded it to the former Aurora based organizer who was ousted from their own town's event.

Love & Peace Graffiti contest?
At any rate Newmarket will now host its own, but personally I'd like to see something new and different like perhaps Beatle MAINia for the Main St and Riverwalk Commons area of town. Imagine turning Main St into Penny Lane for the event with Mcartney and Lennon lookalikes in the local restaurants, bars, and cafes, also karaokes featuring Beatles only songs and movies, and feature headlining performers like Abbey Road or Beatlmania performing on the main stage.Vendors and Main St merchants could also sell Beatles and hippy era paraphernalia, wigs, leather bands, t-shirts etc as well a photographer could take instant pics of people sticking their heads through Beatles cut outs and maybe set the street up for that famous crosswalk photo. The World-wide multiculturally loved Beatles have such an appeal that even the new generation considers them great, which would pretty much ensure a good attendance, and, if done right attract thousands including out-of-towners.

I noticed the car clubs are in full swing come summertime so we could have either The Newmarket Car Club or Highway 11 Cruisers feature 60's and 70's era cars at the event as well as Beatles lookalike contests and perhaps a songwriters workshop and contest as well.

I'd do a little more researching to come up with more unique ideas or perhaps you have some you'd like to share!!!? If this unique and original idea sounds like something you might be interested in, let me know and maybe we can discuss it over some tea....or something! Ha

Main St Newmarket
Until then Imagine the-e-re's a festival....I wonder if you c-a-an!

Marketing 101 - Pay it Forward

Commission Cheque for TP
Effective marketing is essential no matter what "product", service, or event you are promoting and to that end I commend an enterprising person who used her "status" as a single mom in a Kijiji ad soliciting for work as a part-time house cleaner. I could identify with her plea as it reminded me of some of what I'd gone through in the past as a single parent. Most importantly, from a marketing stand point, it moved me to action as I'd been thinking about getting a little help in that department as, let's just say, I'd never impress Molly Maid.

When I first got custody of my kids I'd been working in T.V. projects onscreen such as in Forever Knight, Top Cops, Secret Agent, The Steven Truscott Trial ( M.O.W.) and others on which the set hours were often all night long, and I supplanted this with income as a bartender at the now defunct Glenway Country Club where I'd meet the Publishers of CoverStory Newspaper York Region who'd recruit me to write a column bi-monthly, "At The Clubs" and "Local Flavour" as Entertainment Editor while at the same time I was producing / hosting a cable TV show that covered most everything I wrote about. Part of the deal was I got to run an ad as well continually, and so started Tom's Temps cartoon ads I drew which would much later evolve into TP Entertainment & Media Productions.

It was a wonderful time period in my life until reality set in - which was I couldn't do it all.

Admittedly my work deteriorated at CoverStory as my "At The Clubs" Columns became less and less about the bands and such and more creative writing since it was hard to get babysitters enough to get out and about and attend all the shows and grand openings etc that go with the territory. And you want to be able to do a good job too as the bar owners had liked the coverage of their venues and pics I'd take to post in the column and I really enjoyed doing it. But my kids came first now.

Keeping a promise
Slowly my "Local Flavor" column also became diluted, with me covering now mostly family friendly restaurants and I'd write more about portion sizes and the number of available high chairs. Yea, riveting stuff. Not that the bosses noticed all they looked at was if the clubs and restaurants bought ads on the page.

I pissed a few owners off here and there too, like Larry from Fitzy's in Newmarket (still owes me $800 but that for another day), as I wrote that if I hadn't gotten in for free I wasn't sure I'd have paid his cover charge to see (use?) sumo wresting (suits) which he didn't like, but mostly I'd flatter and highlight what was good about the places in question.

One night I was attacked outside a nightclub by 4 drunk patrons unknown to me and not too long after that I realized something had to give job-wise as getting daycare / babysitting had also become a constant nightmare of uncertainty. I realized then I needed to find a 9-5 job in order to manage the kids and landed a General Manager's position with a brand new restaurant in town, Muskoka Moe's, which essentially for the most part would enable me to be a 9 to fiver and have regular daycare for my kids and give 100% to the job. It was a good fit - not the ideal choice for what I wanted to be doing but it's what you do when you have kids alone - you make compromises.

And we all lived happily ever after. Wrong! Ha.

My luck kicked in as usual when a 6 months into the gig which I was warming up to - having kicked it off as "Elvis" via limo entrance to the Great York Region Restaurant Race for which I was an original committee member of (raised $100,000) - the guy who hired me sold his half of the business to a couple who  first moved me to the night manager position - a nightmare with kids - and later informed me they wouldn't be needing me to manage anymore when I showed up with my kids a couple times while I waited for the babysitter to pick them up.

Panic mode set in then..

At first I'd gotten us a two bedroom apartment to live in, which was fine, even though my room was the closet with a mattress on the floor but eventually I moved us and managed rooms for everyone by renting one out and adding 'some babysitting" as part of the deal, whilst I eventually returned to ( film and television production) school figuring I'd come out skilled enough to find my way. I was also a principal performer / and original Producer and co-creator of the Canadian Improv Showcase for both Cable T.V. and live shows including producing and booking the shows as I attended school. By then I'd ( had to) taken my car off the road and had to get the kids to daycare by foot, then take transit from Newmarket to Dundas St East in Toronto - about a 2 and half hour treck most days. The kids never knew any  different though and loved going to our improv shows and rehearsals and so that took care of babysitting for those gigs.

Memory lane after singer daughter performance
Upon graduating with an 89% average and with my script a comedy about 3 homeless guys - one of three chosen to be made into a film by the school - I fully expected the pick of the litter in jobs out there when done, but no, the industry expected you to volunteer to gain certain experience. Luckily I'd already produced, hosted, camera operated, and performed on TV so at least I had that.

My first job post graduation, outside independent movies I participated in, was the most popular T.V. show on the Women's Television Network, The Designing Challenge as a Production Assistant and Camera Assist which was fun while it ran, but once the season was shot it was done for the year. I also had continued to Produce C.I.S. at that time as well and tend bar when I could to get by, but it still wasn't raising enough income. What I needed was a job in the industry I was schooled for with regular hours that gave me a respectable position at a pay scale rate that allowed me to take care of my family / costs and had opportunities to advance - but I knew this was a tall order. Finally it got to the point where I wasn't sure we'd make it and on the verge of possibly even a break-down, wondering what I was going to do.

One night I found myself alone in my garage, my kids in bed. I remember speaking aloud to no one in particular my feelings of frustration, maybe even shed some tears, okay so I did, quietly so the kids wouldn't hear me. Then I started smashing boxes, tables,  old hockey sticks and anything else without value stored in the garage ending with a plea to "God" that should he/she exist I needed help right now and it had to have these same conditions  I've described above. "In return", I said aloud quietly that " I'd continue down the path to assist youth ( I'd already sat on a committee that erected towns first youth centre and created "youth beat" in CoverStory newspaper ) and go over and above what I'd done previously should I be granted this one thing. I'd never done this before."

Youth Award created after 'promise'
Now I'm no bible thumper, but I will say this only, within two weeks of this prayer/promise I found a position as an Associate Producer of feature family films and would participate in movie productions that included actors like Betty White, Wayne Rogers, Rue Mcclanahan, Kate Jackson, Judd Hirsch, Howie Mandell, Taylor Mummsen, Ted Shackleford, Stacy Keach and Josh Hutcherson among some.

Working out of Toronto as a satellite company for another in L.A., I learned from a very successful Executive Producer of films, David Borg, who'd returned to work to Canada after some years based in Los Angeles, working closely with him and he encouraged me to hang and listen to him pitch which I often did. Borg allowed me to show up at 9 am and even 9:30 until I got a car again and was cognizant of the fact I had kids alone, and I never forgot that. This all being said this was no creative position as The Associate Producer's job in U.S. style movie development is essentially a sales job - you're selling a limited partnership in a movie to an investor - and my job was to cold call potential investors at their places of work and once I qualified someone as an investor, hand it over to Dave to close the deal. Dave taught us how to handle and qualify potential investors before he'd even take a call, and when he did he was natural and direct and could almost identify immediately whether they were real or a 'stoker".

TPE donates youthful creativity
I always sat in wonder as he'd walk someone through the partnership agreement paperwork over the phone, someone we'd never met, yet someone investing a minimum of $25,000 dollars up to $100,000 to step on board. He taught me that you were looking for a certain type of guy - someone who can get excited about getting involved in a movie, perhaps attend some soirees or come to L.A. for the movie launch at the Kodak Center. Someone who could also easily be able to lose the entire investment without it killing them financially. It offered also diversity to one's portfolio as it is good to have investments diversified especially through times of world strife. He taught me how to "control' the call. Dave even dared us to put people on hold for no reason.

" If they are a real investor they'll wait for you" he'd say.

His skill level was unbelievable and the environment intoxicating at times when you'd sometimes hear numerous pitches at once like a high stakes investments house and the energy levels buzzed in the room especially when someone had someone really interested. Dave encouraged us to stand up when speaking to keep our energy levels up and taught us closing techniques only years of experience and hours of motivational info could offer. The psychology of it all astounded me.

Within two months Dave had moved me up to closer in a commission only role and I became top producer in that office for the duration of my time there personally raising over $1,000,000 in investment dollars by bringing on board limited partners from cold calls! And I got to work on projects that included Executives like Lou Perlman - Author of Bands, Brands and Billions and inventor of 'Boy Bands" who was going to be coming on-board for a fairy tale themed rock musical and who gave us a Christmas luncheon inspirational send off - of course that all changed when his dominoes fell and he was subsequently jailed....that for another day!

At any rate I don't forget what it is to try and manage my workplace / income safety net system alone with kids, and to that end this bold woman's ad initiative speaks to me and I will indeed hire her for a few extra bucks a month in her pocket so she can provide for her kids.

Moral to the story is.....Pay it forward.

Speaking of youth I've been working on a couple of projects connected to youth lately including Jazzled's upcoming launch as well as resurrecting the "Tiny Talent Tom" show live and perhaps an online-live version to come! Stay tuned!

Open Stage Friday's

The original new logo in 2008!
Recently while holding an event, one of the performers I'd used a few times and who's displayed some talent, communicated a desire to host an open stage or acoustical jam or something to that effect and as it happened I'd be asked to testify at a licensing hearing for a local place known to feature live entertainment. That was part of the reason however that they are in a hearing fighting for their license, because the powers that be claim - after 5 years of not mentioning it apparently - that they believe the location is not allowed any amplified music whatsoever according to their liquor license.

TPE was the original promoter and entertainment booker
I was at the original licensing hearing some years ago and my recollection is that those conditions were specific to the outside of the building only. I mean, think about it, what place is told no amplification whatsoever? That means no tv, no radio, jukebox, no stereo, no nothing because all use "amplified sound".

Meantime owner Noel was almost in tears after her hearing which ended with a remand and no decision leaving her soundless still. Told she'd had only two customers that day in her absence while at the hearing Friday, she looked at me and said,  "What am I supposed to do? I'm ruined."

Amps at PACC fundraiser @GoodTimes in 2008 now a nono
I though about "cheering her up" with some pun-like ideas - like Mime Night!..Or A Capella Night but I didn't want to confuse her...besides I had some ideas about how to turn her situation into a positive. It was early in the evening too I thought, still time for her to make something happen that night...and beyond!

This is why I thought of Good Times when Matthew's dilemma came up. The ambiance is perfect for it. He plays acoustics and sings and theoretically it could work without amps is my feeling..so why not make it so!

Voila - Friday Night Open Stage Night @ Good Times Cafe Bar & Grill.

One of the first ever TPE performers at Good Times 2007 from Nashville
After settling in a bit, the tallish Matt aka Sunbranch, played an array of originals and old covers with unique twists and turns laden into the mix - keeping that "same old, same old" definitely out which was great! At times playing with a partner, a songbird of a girl who harmonized like an angel in bluejeans and who did some cool solo covers as well, the two kept the interest and energy levels rising as the night progressed and had a cool vibe growing as it were. I look forward to more duets and trios and shaker instruments and everything else Sunbranch and friends will bring to the mix!

March Break Free Activity! End Obesity through...

Wow! Talk about working a rough' hood! PACC had to work magic to convince youths to drop their weapons in lieu of hockey sticks for a day! Ha. Getting kids to participate in this day and age of computer games can prove tough as is but with a little assist you can do it!

Newmarket Stellar Banquets and Entertainment Hall Features Live Acts Upcoming

What a Venue!

I'm looking forward to the live entertainment and dances being dished up at   Stellar Hall and Event Centre.

I've been working on getting the rights acts and promoters booked into Stellar Hall so that word spreads about how cool a live events facility this is for playing in or holding an event.

From the acoustics, to the ambiance to the easy going staff (should you require them) and ownership, the place just fits the mold - and with a tremendous history of bands and performers who've played in the same location (under another venue name) such as Jeff Healey, David Wilcox, Platinum Blonde, Burton Cummings, Nazareth, Ronnie Hawkins, Blue Rodeo and Alanah Myles to name some we aim to keep that rockin' tradition going!

Deli House Catering is also located above Stellar Lanes along with Stellar Hall in Newmarket. So there can be dinner / hot food available for any event, meeting, or meet up / group.

Watch for upcoming Entertainment events such as with past features like Paper Fortunes, The Expos, The Salads The Yappers! And More.

The Salads!?
The Salads returned to Newmarket for the first time in 3 years and featured special guests Everglo, Paper Fortunes, as well as acoustic Expos performances from Mich and Reed!
